The first shot was my favourite of a number I took of this ruined church. I liked playing with the composition and focus area as I zoomed in on the subject.

Aged

As part of the Creative Photography course we have to complete 3 projects. Hopefully over the coming weeks I will get the opportunity to go out snapping. Here are some shots I took at Donacomper cemetery in Celbridge on my way home today.

I love the look of aged metal, hence the theme of this set of images.

Glendalough

We had the first 'shoot' for my Creative Photography course this morning. It painfully required me to drag myself out of bed at 6am and make my way to Glendalough for dawn. I found it a challenging situation, and felt a bit lost to be honest, but saying that I did get a couple of images which I liked.

This is probably my favourite image, I just love how the water flows over the rocks. This is the result of a long exposure, in near darkness. I don't think I've ever done such a long exposure before - but I love the effect and the colour combination / tones of the dark blue water and red in the background hills. This is probably my second favourite image. Although it seems too dark, I tried to lighten it slightly, but found I prefer it the way it is. There is such a dramatic feel to the colours - the dark, velvety black trees on the burnt umber hill and the rich blue of the sky. Techy stuff: Ap f8 / S 160 / Focal 82mm


I like this shot, although this slant to the foreground doesn't normally work it does in this instance. I would like to maybe lighten the background foliage, but keep the sky as is. Otherwise I'm happy with it. Techy Stuff: Ap. f8 / S 40 / Focal 18mm

This image is unusual particularly in composition, but I quite like the result. I was pleased to capture both the sky and the grain of the stone work without under / overexposing too much. Techy Stuff: Ap f16 / S 6 / Focal 48mm

As with the previous image I'm fairly happy with the exposure on this shot, and I'm pleased with the result of the composition too. Techy Stuff: Ap f8 / S 15 / Focal 18mm

My final image from Glendalough is of the stone crosses in the graveyard. I like the grain on the stone, and the soft focus of the background cross. Techy Stuff: Ap. f11 / S 13 / Focal 42mm

Wedding Journal

I'm going to try and keep a journal of my wedding plans this year. Starting from getting engaged and seeing what else comes along during the year.

I picked up a journal in Paperchase and altered the cover this week to start my journal.

Hello Everyone! Sorry it's been so long since I posted, but we've had visitors for a few weeks and I have a lot to catch up on.

Big News

Well I have some big news I've been waiting to share with you, and as we got to tell all the various family people over the Christmas holidays I can finally tell the world ;-)

Joe and I are engaged to be married in December 2008. I got the most gorgeous ring, it's a 1930's antique platinum ring, and I love it.

Can you believe it's that time of year again already?

I want to share a very special Christmas card I made with you this week. Its for my Gran and is a collage using gel transfer techniques, stamping, inking, aging and lots of embossing.

As this piece came together I found myself thinking how the little girl looks quite like my Gran as a child. She too had dark, slightly curly hair. So the piece came together with her in mind, and I chose the brads which anchor the ribbon as her initials - "MB" - Maureen Bruton.

There is a little door at the back tied with ribbon, and the message inside reads "I hope all your Christmas Wishes come true".
